Curtis film: In the Land of the Head Hunters

According to this Website, the Edward S. Curtis film, In the Land of the Head Hunters has been restored, re-evaluated and framed with a live orchestral arrangement. Shot in 1914, this silent melodramatic film featured many people from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation.

It looks like the Gwawina Dance group will be performing at the Vancouver screening of the film. I had the pleasure of working with this traditional singing and dance group from Alert Bay, when I was in Banff several years ago. Too bad I’ll be working at the Jazz festival the night that this restored film screens here in Vancouver.
